God’s Word gives us unmistakable evidence of a heart that is right with Him. Here are three marks of a spiritually healthy heart.
When the world feels unsettled and divided, God still hears His people.
1. A Healthy Heart Is Strongly Confident Before God
A healthy heart isn’t confident because you’ve never failed. It’s confident because it trusts God.
When your heart tries to condemn you, remember God is greater than your heart. He is faithful to forgive when you come to Him in surrender.
A healthy spiritual heart rests in God’s grace and knows it belongs to Him.
“…for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything” (1 John 3:20, ESV).
2. A Healthy Heart Is Supremely Obedient to God
Another key to a healthy heart is a heart that loves and obeys God.
You know what God says. You believe what God says. And then you obey what God says.
When you delight in the love of God, you will desire the will of God.
“…whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him. And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another…”
(1 John 3:22–23, ESV) .
3. A Healthy Heart Is Spiritually Diligent for God
God never intended for you to walk alone. He has given you His Holy Spirit to guide you, strengthen you, and help you faithfully follow Christ every day.
But the daily faith journey requires diligence to keep your heart healthy.
As you follow the Holy Spirit’s leading, your heart grows stronger and more like Christ’s.
“Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us”
(1 John 3:24, ESV) .
